Hello!

I'm pretty new to keeping African Cichlids. I have a 55 gallon tank that's recently been set up; I currently have one of each:

Electric yellow lab
Juli. marlieri
Brichardi
Auratus

I also have a big pleco. I've been told I should add about 10 more fish, and the Tanganyika cichlids seem to be the most interesting, but putting together a plan for stocking when I don't know much about them has been like learning calculus! I realize now that the Auratus was probably a mistake - I bought him before I realized how complex cichlid keeping was. So far, he (or she) hasn't been a problem; I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm not concerned with breeding them - I'm just interested in keeping them alive. Maybe one day I'll try my hand with brichardis, but for now, I just want to look at pretty fish!

I'm interested in leleupi, A. calvus, demasoni, moori, duboisi, peacocks and various Neolamps. Copadichromis are neat looking, as are Preudotropheus and Labeotropheus. However, I've read a lot of conflicting information about how these fish can be combined.

So what do you guys keep in your 55 gallon tanks? Let's hear your stock lists, and I'll just copy 'em! Smile Thank you so much!

Currently, in my tank I to have some electric yellow's and Brichardi. What I found get along with them the best and still look pretty are Sciaenochromis fryeri or peacocks.( I have a sunshine peacock in my tank.)

I've heard some conflicting views about how many of each species can be in a tank together; are electric yellow labs and brichardis pretty much cool with others of their kind, then? And can a bunch of peacocks be in there together? Ooo, lots of peacocks, pretty tank ... EXPENSIVE tank ... But hey, no one gets into this hobby to save money.

the demonsonis are very agressive to any other member of there species in a 55 gallon in my experience. twice i have tried to keep two in the same tank, but there always ends up to be one left as a result of their constant duels for dominance. also, the pleco might not be fast enough to get away from the hostile mbuna. it is generally not advised to keep one in a mbuna tank
