I came across this and wanted to share with you just incase some of you have never seen the natural habitat of our favorite fish. If you look carefully you may see your own fish there swimming between the rocks. What I want you to notice is the size of rock and shapes, the large tall ones and the low smaller rocks. Notice there aren't many plants, actually I didn't see any. There are pics of the islands where some of our fish come from. Did you know that Malawi Lake is the 9th largest lake in the world and habitats the largest selection of fish compared to Europe and North America together.

I got to thinking about my tank and know that I have three different types of cichilds in it. The Mbuna of course (my favs), the peacocks, and the Haps. The peacocks and Haps habitat is pretty much the same. Sandy and plants. The Mbunas of course with all the rocks. As I sit here and look at my tank I can say with exception to the sand, I did a pretty good job at accomidating them. I have a good supply of river rock in my tank and plants for the others. I try to keep the river rock to the back of the tank with a few little one spiratic in the front. As tall as I want to build the wall to duplicate their habitat, I know my tank will never support all that weight so I try to do the best I can with the lighter smaller rocks. Thats why I want the fake rock background. I found one on the internet that is mirrored after Malawi Lake's rock walls. A young man made it himself and wish I had the pic to show you. I still haven't found out how he made it or with what. Anyhooch I fall in love more and more everyday with the Malawi cichilds and their habitat. Here is the website, have fun...
I want to give kudos to Lee Miller, the one that took the pictures. They did a great job.
