Hi guys,
About once every 3 months one demasoni will stop eating and hang at the surface or near the heater and acting very lethargic.Its doesn't look beatup and the others seem to leave it alone.Within a few days it is swimming on its side and I'm able to catch it with my hands.They will last a couple of weeks before they die.All the other fish are fine.Its just the demasoni.
The tank is a 135g with sand substrate and plenty of rocks.Its stocked with around 17 grown demasoni with at least one fry,15 labs plus fry,7 acei with 3 or more fry,3 clown loaches and 2 BN pleco.Lots of fish holding at all times.

Hi rob,here's some more info.
PH=7.8
temp=78.5
I feed them mostly omega one super veggie flakes.Sometimes blanched squash or omega one cichlid flakes.
I have 2 hob filters,penguin 330 and a magnum 350.Nitrates never go over 10ppm.
All the cichlds in this tank came from friends/breeders.The tanks they came from were very well maintained and all the fish are very healthy.I believe this problem started in my tank.
The demasoni that is sick now has lasted the longest.His color is very dark.Not dark like a dominate fish.His lighter blue bars are hard to see.I noticed today that he is eating a little.Also he is not swimming on his side anymore,he is hanging at the surface head down.

Now I will assume that your water parameters such as ammonia, nitrites are sitting always at zero? and your nitrates are sitting comfortably at 10? The most harmfull thing fish can go through would be inconsistant parameters. Damasoni's are Dwarf cichlids and they are probably the most sensetive cichlid out Mbuna cichlid out there. This isnt the first time i've heard of an occasion where people have had troubles with damasoni, unfortaionatly theres not you can really do. People have more success keeping a damasoni only tank that way no other fish hormones, or bacteria could harm the fish.
Its luck really, unless ur ammonia, nitrites are higher than 0 ppm and nitrates are higher than 10ppm than that could start to affect fishes health over time, and damasoni's faster than others.
Sorry I couldnt more of a help.Cichlid Finatic
