oscars are a from of cichlids right? i want to get a few of them once i get my cichlid tank set up i was thinking about buying a devidor and putting it in the middle of the tank or getting another tank i want to put like 4 of them in one tank and try and breed them and things like that. any one own one or any thing??? any one think there worth getting?

I believe Oscars are S. American and you can't mix them in the same tank with African cichlids. Not to mention Oscars need a huge tank as they get extremely big. One oscar can get as large as 12-14 inches long. You need to see a full grown to appreciate their size. One Oscar requires a 75 gal tank. They dig like crazy and make a huge mess in the tank. IMHO most people that get oscars end up getting rid of them because of their size and the mess they make. I had a Central and South American tank in the beginning. I had two oscars and two Jack Dempseys. Wow they were only small yet and had to get rid of them due to the sizes they were reaching and I just did not want to deal with a 200 gal tank at that time. Acutally I may have needed bigger than 200 gal after it was all said and done as Jack Dempsey's get very large too.
Now if you decide to put them in a tank with African cichlids and divide the tank, you will drive your Africans literally crazy. The Africans absolulty hate the oscar amongst other fish and will continually try to get at them through the divider. I strongly advise you not to do this. One thing I know for a fact is that African cichlids DO NOT care how big these oscars get. They are not intimidated by their size.

i see its still fun to feed them and i like how they are mean. haha i have a swimming pool so that will be plenty of space for them!

how many oscars could i fit in my 75 gal tank some day i want to up grade tanks again to a 265 gal tank and ill use the 75 gal tank for oscars i would use 2 canister filters.

im not aloud to use the pool or i would have alot of fish in there like 200 like 5 oscars, tons of cichlids a few discus, ya kno the works haha. its like 3000gal or more

i know they get big but it would be fun to have a few maybe even get a fish pond some day or somthing it would be cool to have and learn from.

you ever notice when some one is asking about one thing and like a few lines down in the tread we are talking about somthing off the subject that we started with?? i was reading on another site about this and just about every thread you go to is that way haha got to love it
