Ok so here's the story. I work for an office, and we have tank full of 4 full grown cichlids that we've had since they were very young. I'm not sure how long my company has owned them, and I know they are atleast a couple years old, and as of recently, one of them has decided to reside in one corner of the tank, hovering just above the bottom. He moves when provoked, but not much- most of the time he just sits there, almost turning all the way on his side if left alone by the others. They of course swim all around and directly above him as usual fish would; and I have notice that these fish can be a little violent to each other at times, but he doesn't look injured. We do employ cleaners from an aquarium store to come in and clean the tank and make sure the water is balanced and what not.

I'm thinking it may be old age, but they all do get extremely excited when we feed them, and that's one maybe* two spoon fulls of pellets only once a day, 3 days out of the week. Are we feeding them too much or too little?

There is just something obviously wrong with one of them, sadly. Let me know, if it seems like it's anything obvious. Thanks guys!

Change out 25% of the water and fill up the aquarium again. Do this on a regular basis. Don't add anything to the water. Also, clean out the filter material. Clean it with the fish tank water. If you clean the filter material with the tap water your going to kill the beneficial bacteria. When I say clean the filter material. You should have a hang on the back filter and that has a flossy scrubber pad on it. Rinse that in a bucket of fish tank water. I would think it's a hang on the back filter.

Do change out the 25% of the volume of water every other week.

I know your fish maybe used to it but feeding them 3 times a week is too little. They should be getting fed a couple to a few times a day at little amounts. It is a week later since your post, have you noticed any change in the fish that is in the corner or was? Fish hide in a corner for several reasons. It's usually due to stress caused from other fish but it can also be illness setting in. Has there been any changes in the fish's appearence like less coloring, lump under the belly, breathing faster then the other fish, obvious spots on the fish that weren't there before. Do the gills look clear, is it eating? It's hard to diagnose fish without seeing them. I do strongly suggest you increase their food intake and maybe change up the diet to include veggies 1-2 times a week even if you have never done so before. These fish are known for bloat and giving them variety in their diets help keep them from getting the bloat. Let us know whats happening.

yeah, it definitely was a combination of too little to eat and their natural ability to traumatize each other. So we upgraded their food intake and had the sick one removed so he could get better, but he didn't end up lasting for long.
It had nothing to do with the water, thankfully, but the social problems are the culprit- the one dominant one eats practically everything, leaving the other two a little on the thin side. But since we removed our sick one, the others were able to handle the feisty one a little better. I honestly think they are too big for our tank, but it's my bosses fish, so its hard to convince him to switch them out.
