Trp, I would need to know more about what symptoms your fish had. Just a chewed up face? Is that from another fish fighting with it or sickness?

Either way the fish sounds like it needs to be treated with medication.

Is there a hole in it's head? Is it slime on his face? Is there flesh missing?

Here is the issue and I tell everyone. When you own a big tank, you must have a small 5 gal for treatments. You wouldn't want to treat an entire tank with antibiotics if only one fish is injured and infected. You can go on craigslist.com and find a 5 gal tank with set up for practicly nothing. A lot of times they are free. You could even use a fish bowl as long as it had a small powerhead with filter sponge and heat. You don't need gravel or a fancy filter or anything like that. But you must have something for sick fish. It's part of being in the hobby. For now, you can take your chances treating your whole tank but I strongly recommend not if you can help it, especially if you have to use an antibiotic for one fish.

So let me know what your symptoms are and if you can send a pic that would be helpful too. We will see what we can come up with after that.

right now it has like a white foamy looking stuff on it like fungi on its face, looks like the skin is missing from fighting with fish and the fungi. the problem is these fish were kinda niped up when i got them so i treated them with that melatab its a sick fish treatment and it is to help heal fungi, bit up fins, and other things i cant think of them all of hand. another problem is this tank was my holding thank with 10 gal whisper filter and a small ten gal heater, some gravel in the tank it has my tex hole rock in it for hiding they love it, i have a few small plants. i did a 50% water change last night to get most of the chems out of the tank and i put salt in the tank just to help some and relax the fish due to the water change stressing them out and i had to pull the rock out and check for any dead fish due to i hadnt seen one of the fish for about 2 days straight... and i was hopeing it would help the sick fish and i have no other tanks or any thing or money at this time to buy more stuff and my mom and gf wouldnt let me do so if i had the money i have no place to put it....

It sounds to me like later stage ick or a bacterial infection. Have you seen ick on these fish in the last couple weeks? Did you treat them for it? If not than it's probably a bacterial infection which will need an antibiotic. I stongly recommend a sulfa antibiotic. You can get it at the LPS.

API (Aquarium Pharmaceuticals) puts out a very good "super ick cure" and a "sulfa antibiotic" They are a little costly, more than some other brands, but I use them only for very serious illness. If it is just regular ick where you can see the white spots all over it, then I just use "Quick Cure" It works great and usually will take care of the problem within just a couple days, however if it is later stage ick, you will need something a little more powerful. Later stage ick can be seen usually affecting the face with a slimy substance covering the face and also what looks like it's being eaten from the inside out. This is either 2nd or 3rd stage ick and very very serious stuff. It usually takes a couple treatments to get rid of it. It usually leads to infection as well so when ever your fish have these signs, you should also buy the sulfa product as well to take care of the later bacterial infection it will get.

So If I had to take a wild guess what your fish are suffering from, I would say later stage ick. Does't mean you had to see the symptoms of 1st stage ick. Most people don't see 2nd or 3rd stage ick because usually when they see the spots, they knows it's ick and then treat it accordingly. Sometimes treatments aren't done long enough and a few spores end up living and then spred to later stage ick. I have seen this twice now and it can be fatal if not taken care of right away.

Good luck to you.

Good luck Trp. Turn your heat up to 81 degrees and add 1 tbs of salt to 5 gals of water. Unless it's your big 75 gal tank don't add that much salt. Ick hates salt, salt helps heal wounds, and ick hates heat.

you can't add salt again unless you do a water change first then add salt only according to the amount of fresh water you added.
