Hello, all.

I am having trouble finding images of Haplochromis obesus and Haplochromis cavifrons. In my Google searching, I came across an article that says the "Haps" were reclassified in 1989... but I can't seem to find a listing as to what the old scientific names became. Can anyone help me, either by letting me know:

1) What the new scientific names of H. obesus and H. cavifrons are
2) Where I can find images of either

Thanks!

These fish are from Lake Victoria.

Try searching Lipochromis obsesus and Harpagochromis califrons.

L. obsesus is still alive in the Kyoga Basin.

Thanks.

Still can't find images of either fish, though! Smile

If I may ask, what exactly are you seeking this information for? Are you involved in some research or do you wish to keep these species?

I work for a museum that is seeking to show graphics of these specific fish to illustrate adaptive radiation.

I understand. I don't have either of these two species, but if it is these particular two cichlids that you are after, you might want to contact Paul Loiselle at pvl2413@aol.com. Dr. Loiselle might be able to point you in the right direction. If you are looking for examples from these assemblages, we keep Harpagochromis sp. "golden duck" and a couple Lipochromis sp. including L. cf. parvidens. These are both closely related to the afore mentioned piscavores. If we can help you out with photographs, just let me know.

Thank you very much for your help. I've sent off an email to Dr. Loiselle, so hopefully that will get me closer to those two species.

Cheers!
