i have a new tank that has been set up for 3 weeks now.
i have 3 electric yellows, 2 sp.44, and 2 purple acei.also, 4 tiny danios to move things around.
the sp.44 are fairly bloated in the anal fin area. one of the acei is bloated as well but not as bad as the 44's.

all of the fish are eating and look like their excreting, so i dont know what is going on.

they have been bloated for about 1 1/2 weeks.

i had new tank syndrome but it cleared after 3/4 days. Recent water change because the Ammonia decided to skyrocket the past couple days. i have all the right filter media but dont know what is going on with the fish.

any advice?

Your tank is not cycled yet. It takes up to two months for the cycle to complete.

What are you feeding your fish? Try giving them some veggies two or three times a week. Some romaine lettuce clipped to the inside of the tank or a slice of zucchini clipped.

Are you giving them just flake or just pellets? Try mixing their food up,

Two helpings of flake a day and one helping of pellets and veggies a couple times a week. They need the veggies to help move things smoothly through their intestines.

Also for now you may want to put some aquarium salt in the tank while they are bloated.

try 1 teaspoon per 5 gals of water. This will help relax the fish.

of course nobody at the aquarium store would tell me exactly how to feed the cichlids.
they had just told me pellets.

right now they are getting just pellets.
i have bought some food with spirulina to help get some roughage.

thanks for the info. i will try the real veggies with them too!
