what happens when there is a cichlid that wants to mate and none responds to the "shimmy"?
everyone else is considerately smaller than the one try to mate

Sometimes the shimmy is a warning to other fish to stay away from a specific area. Sometimes it just means to "get away from me or I am going to kick your butt" and sometimes it means, "oh I love your colors and you are so irresistable to me, come over to my place and lets make woopie"

Not always does it mean that one wants to spawn.
