First if this question is in the worng forum group please move.

Now to my question I try to keep my tank at aroun 75 degrees give or take a degree. Sometimes my tank will jump up to almost 80 degrees. Which I know is on the very high end of the ideal temp. Can this be casue by my heaters? Maybe I should go and buy to high dollar ones, or fully submerisable ones? The room temp is around 65 degrees. I have two heaters on each side of 100 gallon tank, and I have one 170 gph power head along with a aqua clear 50, and an emperor 400 in my tank.

Thanks,

It sounds like your tank is in a draft area. Maybe under an AC vent or near an open window. If not, then it could be that one of your heaters is not calibrated with the other. They both need to work together not to over power eachother. I too have two heaters in my 125 gal tank. Fully submersible ones are the best especially the plastic ones. Yea they are expensive but have broken so many glass ones.

Also 78 degrees is the ideal temp for cichlids and if you want to keep ick at bay 79-80 is best. Ick has a harder time growing in higher temps. These temps are ok for cichlids. Some people like 75 degrees but I personally think it's too cold. But that is my own personal opinion.
