Good Evening All
I need to move my tank from one side of the room to the other and I am wondering if anyone has any good ideas of the best way to do that so that I don't stress my fish.

my thought was to empty the water as long as I could and slide it gently across the floor -- with help of course -- it has to be moved about 12 feet. If I do that -- would I add tap water slowly

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

thank you

I once moved my 115 gal tank with a very little bit of water in it, just so I wouldn't have to take the fish out. I only moved mine about 6 ft and there was just so much pressure of the water moving in the tank that it injured the tank and I had to replace it with another. I would empty it completely of all water and fish.

Sorry but I would never do that again. I ended up giving the tank to someone for their pet beared dragon.

Thank you -- I am glad I checked here first before making any kind of move!! If I put some of the water from the tank into a large bucket and move the fish into that for a bit -- that would be ok wouldn't it?? I have never moved a tank once it was set up and don't want to lose my fish or mess up my tank.

thanks again for the advice!!

will let you know how it goes!!

Yes try to save as much of the water as you can, at least 1/3 of it or better to put back in the tank once it's been moved. You can keep your fish in the bucket with that tank water til you can put them back in the tank. Try to syphin as much as the water out of the gravel as possible. That's what did it for me. I didn't syphin the water below the gravel and it just slammed up against the one end of the tank and cracked 1/2 inch thick glass. Unblievable as it seems, it happend. What a waste.

Anyhooch, good luck.

Hey, I got an aquarium from someone that had a leak in one corner and I just bought some all-glass aquarium silicone caulk and smeared it up and now it holds water fine =)

Yes that has been done a million times but this could not be fixed without replacing the whole side of glass. The hole in the bottom corner of this 115 gal 1/2 inch thick glass was quite large.

oh the glass itself was damaged ouch i guess that goes to show you never to move an aquarium with water in it

likewise not a good idea to slosh the water around a lot either id guess
