I have a Cichlid that has what looks to me like splinters (slivers) on its head. Is this normal? I have attached a picture that will hopefully help.

In General Discussions I wrote a post about taking a break and had added that my fish were sick and I was so stumped it was suggested that I wrote Jungle Labs for help. Here is what they wrote.
Hello, Rhonda
Sorry about that we get so many emails, but I found your email. It sounds like
the fish are having some internal bacterial and fungus issues. I would try
treating with the Jungle(r) Fungus Clear(r) Tank Buddies(r) or Jungle(r) Fungus
Eliminator(r). Both of these product will treat bacteria and fungus related
problems and both are very good medications.
The worms that you are seeing are more than likely detritus worms, which are
naturally present in most aquaria and are usually brought in with fish food. In
most tanks, they hide very well -- under the gravel and in the filter, but when
they take over the aquarium walls, they become a nuisance. The good news is that
they will not harm fish; rather the other way around: fish consider them a tasty
snack. That's why they usually hide.
The bad news is that there is no chemical we manufacture that will get rid of
them. All you can do is siphon them out. Make frequent partial water changes,
siphoning out as many as you can, but don't change more than 25% of the water at
one time. If your tank is small enough, you can even use a turkey baster (set
aside for just the tank) for this purpose.
Sincerely,
Cassandra Kearns

Hi everybody, new guy here again, maybe someone can help.
I've got a 3 inch Zebra Chilumba (Pseudotropheus Zebra 'Chilumba') with small white spots on his body behind his left fin.
I've got a 20 gal. long with 1 Zebra Obliqueden (Astatotilapia latifasciata), 1 Borelyi Red Fin (Copadachromis borleyi 'Kandango'), 1 Bumble Bee (Pseudotropheus crabro), and 1 Electric Yellow (Labidochromis caeruleus), but none of the other fish have these spots.
He's the biggest fish and obviously the boss of the tank so far, but he seems to be acting a little sluggish, and although he uses the fin while he's swimming with no probem, when he's just hanging out he keeps the fin tucked tight against his body over the spots like they are painful and he's protecting them.
The tank has been up and running for over 2 months with no cloudiness or other health problems so far. And I've been cycling the tank with 25-30% water replacement every 2 weeks.
The fish all seem to get along fine, they chase each other sometimes, but it seems to be playful more than aggression.
The Zebra Obliqueden and the Chilumba take a nip at one another occasionally during feeding time, but I've never seen anything that would seem like major fights or anything.
I know that this tank is way too small for this many cichlids, so I'm setting up a 55 gal. this weekend so they've got more territory, but in the meantime, can anyone tell me what this sounds like and what I can do about it ?
Perhaps it's a sparring injury, a disease/parasite ?
Help !
Thx !
