I'm looking to get back into the Hobby and well here's sorta what I'm after.
I'm new here, and I've been searching for almost a month now for a Canadian Source for the following species.

-Benthochromis Tricoti

-Cyanthopharynx Furcifer "Kigoma"

-Cyprochromis Leptosoma "Utinta"

-Xenotilapia Ochrogenys "Ndole"

-Neolamprologus Caudopunctatus

-Julidochromos Regani "Kipili"

-Synodontis Petricola

Thanks in advance
Regards
Russ

Good Morning,
last night I was watching my female Leptosoma. She has that bulge under her jaw so I assumed she was holding. After a few minutes though, it looked like white smoke came shooting out of her gills. There was no male nearby, just a curious Occellatus who quickly swam away. Any thoughts?

I've got a bit too much time on my hands tonight so I decided to "test" samples of tap water here... and... I'm curious to know the water parameters of people local to me and people far away and compare my local water to yours... I then thought it would be interesting to compare what fishes we keep and how they do in our respective waters.

pH = 8.0

General Hardness [gH] = 180 mg/L (CaCO3) = 10.1 dH°
Carbonate Hardness [kH] = 230 mg/L (CaCO3) = 12.9 dH°

Tropheus Keepers: In your opinion, are my water parameters close to "optimal" for Tropheus? I also "buffer" my water as the pH tends to drop to about 7.6 after it "sits" for a while. I add "SeaChem Tanganyika Buffer" and "SeaChem Cichlid Salt" to my water at approximately the doses directed on the bottle(s).

So yes... if anyone wants to share their water parameters I for one would be curious to see them.

Well, I had to do a major cleaning on the 150-gallon... alot of accumulated waste on the bottom... damn hard to clean the 30" deep tank... that is a major reason why I want to sell it...

Anyway, I caught all the Tropheus Black "Kiriza" fry I could find... and it turns out I now have a total of 17! And, I still have 3 females holding! I found my first fry August 25... my females are all kind of small and seem to spit few fry, but I've never had any other spawns, ever, so who am I to complain? Smile

Anyway, I threw them in a breeder trap for a few quick photos, and then I transferred them into the 55-gallon with the T. Moorii "Nkonde" as it's easier to keep an eye on them in there.

Well, I "sold" my Syno. Multipunctatus that I believe were keeping my Tropheus Moorii NKONDE from breeding.

My 11 Syno. went to a user on the Winnipeg Fish Forum in exchange for his 19 Tropheus Moorii NSUMBU.

"Kyle" owned these Nsumbu for 2-3 years but they had only grown to about 2.0 to 2.5 inches for him and had only attempted several spawns with little fruits of their labour. He also admitted that he couldn't give them the TLC they need. (You should see all the tanks he has, and all the fry! Holy cow! Where does this guy find the time!?)

The NSUMBU are gone into my 150-gallon with my Tropheus Black KIRIZA colony for now... once I build the rack I hope to start toward Christmas, every colony will once again have their own tank.

My "tanks" (heh heh) to Kyle for a trade that should benefit both of us for a long time to come!

After reading people post about their shell dwellers hide it is
nice to see mine out and about alot.

My four share a 20G with a male Betta. He used to stay close to the
top of the tank all the time now that he has some thing else in the
tank he swims along the bottom now and again and if a little
shellie is in his path he puffs up. (I have never seen a Betta do
this with another fish before). No bitting or nipping from either
side. I think for some reason he just feels it is his tank.

Does anyone out there have any female Neolamprologus multifasciatus that they would like to sell? I have three now , but two of them are male. I would really like to get a breeding colony started.

This is going to be my first attempt for a breeding tank and I have a few questions.

In a 40 gallon tank, should I only have 1 breeding pair? Or is that enough room for 2 pairs?

I guess I have the cart before the horse.

How to I go about establishing breeding pairs Question

Should I just buy 4 or 5 and wait for 2 to pair up or can I just go out and buy a male and a female and be ok?

I havent even started setting up the tank yet. So I have plenty of time to gather more info or to make any changes.
I will have plenty of rock and caves. Iam using tahitian moon black sand in the tank...

Does anyone here handfeed their fish? I know someone that does, and she can get her fronts (and any of her Malawians) to come right into her hand. She can even lift them out of the water a short distance too. Cool

I've had this comp for about 4 years. He's grown into a pretty impressive specimen. So I'm pretty bummed out about this. He has a dislocated jaw. He is in a 125g with rock all the way to the top so its going to be a joy to try to get him out. Every dislocated Comp. jaw thread I've ever read, says that it will just dislocate again. Do you think suturing his mouth shut for a week or two would give it time to heal, or am I just grasping at straws here. Not only have I grown attatched to him, but like I said, he is quite spectacular. TIA, Dan

HI!

Quick question on bottom feeders. I just added a 10 gallon tank 2 weeks ago. My Idea was to add 4 fancy guppies to it to cycle and breed them for live food (also making it a sick/hospital tank) untill the brichardis start pairing up (add 1 pair to the 10 gallon). However, I had to add 1 brichardi because he got "voted out" of the 20 gallon. Problem now is that the 1 brichardi wont let the guppies go to the bottom to eat the leftovers (they did before i added the brichardi). So now Im getting Lots of flakes sitting on the bottom uneaten.
I tried the idea of getting a turkey baster to suck the uneaten food, but that is to hard. so I just use I python to do that everyday. And I dont like that idea, because that is a 10 percent change per day.
So what bottom feeder would do good in a 10 gallon that eventually will have 1 pair of brichardis?
cories would get beaten by the brichardi, as will loaches. The petricola is a good idea, but the 10 gallon is a bare tank with no gravel, 3 small rocks and a peice of slate covering it, and a plastic plant-so he/she wont be happy. What about Snails? but they eat slowely...
In my 20 gallon, I have 2 dwarf albino bristlenose (2 inches). If I added one to my 10 gallon, would he eat the leftover food? or just algae...problem is no algae in my 10 gallon.... Any help will be appreciated.

PS. This could be the very first time a brichardi was mixed with fancy guppies Smile
