It appears that the General Discussion forum was spammed.

I'm guessing that, at some time, the forum was changed to allow anonymous postings rather than requiring users to register. While registration is thought to prevent participation in discussions, it does prevent the poisoning of discussion topics from spam and completely off-topic discussions.

I have turned off the ability to allow for anonymous posting to the General Discussion forum (the other forums were already set to allow registered users only).

Additionally, I have cleared out some of the spam messages from the discussions. However, a lot remain. I am sure that the moderators will delete the spam messages over the next day or so.

Thanks for everyone's understanding!

An upgrade to the forum failed yesterday, which resulted in corrupted data within the forum installation.

All data has been restored and the upgrade was successfully re-run.

As you can see, the forum is back on-line. Smile

The XML/RSS feed is also now available. You can use your favorite RSS news reader to monitor when new messages get posted to the forum.

For those of you using Mozilla's FireFox browser, this will work with the Live Bookmarks feature!

Essentially, you can either monitor the whole forum (displaying the 10 most recent posts):
http://www.africancichlids.net/forums/rdf.php?mode=m&l=1 &n=10&basic=1
Or you can monitor an individual topic if you examine the URL of that topic and look for the topic ID. With that topic ID, you can adjust the above listed URL according to the help pages.

In case no one noticed, you can now click on "Generate printable PDF" to either print out or save a complete topic or forum's information for later use.

While this may not be helpful all of the time, there are those instances where it would be useful.

I have worked with the developer of the forum software in order to get this implemented using fully free software. So, the PDF generation is now re-enabled in the forum.

Seems our chat applet is not working right now. This is out of our control but we'll try to get it back up again ASAP. In the meantime, if you would like to access fishroom, download a mud program (Gmud is our choice) and connect via the instruction on the Chat page.
