Hi, My husband got this for me from the lsf. Lfs said it's a five finned shark. I cannot find anything on the little guy. He's suppose to be a bottom feeder, but I have yet to see him bottom feed. Any input would be so helpful Very Happy index.php?t=getfile&id=349&private=0

Well.... you got yourself a fish that's going to get quite large.
They also change colour and shape as they age, and it's not for the better. Scientific name is Myxocyprinus asiaticus and it's a sucker. Another common name for it is Chinese hifin sharks, or Chinese Hifin Banded Sharks. They can grow up to 39". That's more than 3 feet!

Thanks LisaKenKath. He is gonna be biggggg Shocked . On the plus side he's a slow grower and I'm hoping I'll be able to donate him to a nearby aquaritorium(?) when he gets bigger. I had read he grows 1 maybe 2 inches a year so it gives me time to research places. Smile

Check with that aquarium now! They get offers of that sort all the time and cannot always take the fish they are offered. You may just want to bring him back to the lfs. They really should not be offered in the petstores at all. There are lots of fish that shouldn't be offered - eg redtail catfish, channel cats, etc.

I so agree with you. I feel so bad for the little guy. Sad He is defintely not a fish for a community tank. I am going to start inquiries asap. I don't want to take him back to the lfs. I'm sure he will just be sold to some unknowing person again.

I think it is a disgrace that petshops sell fish to people wihtout giving factual information about the fish first.
I hate to see Pacos/Arrowanas/Red tail cats being sold in these shops. I have no problem if you have the space and get them ordered in especially.
