I have a 75 gallon tank, its been a while since I have had cichlids. When I last had cichlids I was suing well water, which had perfect pH and hardness. Now I am using "city" water, I have added atleast 60-70 lbs of crushed coral and still the pH is to low....I want to put venustus and livingstoni in the tank. At the time the pH is to low, what can I do to raise it more (8.0-8.4)?????? Thanks for your time!!

As long as your pH isn't crazy low (in the low 6's), I wouldn't worry too much about it. Those types are pretty adaptable and it's ALWAYS better to adapt your fish to your water rather than the other way around.

Just because the water has certain parameters where the fish comes from doesn't mean it CAN'T have different parameters elsewhere.

I have had angelfish in my pH 8.2 water before and they did just fine (case in point).

If your pH is over 7 and you're using crushed coral, the fish should be fine... just make sure you get rid of all the weird stuff the city puts in the water Smile
