Here's our Malawi display tank with some young mbuna, an eel, and a nice piece of Texas Holey Rock we picked up at a recent auction.

i love the tanks if i ever travel to tx im going to see all of your show room! do you sell fish?? i love that tx holey rock its the best looking one i have seen i think the fish are so happy looking vary vary great tanks. i know you know just about every thing about these fish dont you? how many fish do you have? and how many personal tanks at home do you have. im sure you could make a 1000 pic page of just your fish and tanks. the pond is awsome i want to get one also but i want it in my house so i can keep odd fish in it haha. thanks for the pics they are wonder full.

You're more than welcome to visit, but don't expect too much... it's mostly utility  The 'showroom' is a small collection of larger tanks (about 12-55 gallon and 2-125 gallon). The reason we call it a showroom is because we actually set the tank decor up and arrange the tanks in an attractive manner... except for the Malawi tank, which is new, they are full of mature cichlids and catfish. We also keep our show and photo contest awards in there. We originally had the racks against the walls, but started having some moisture issues, so Gas pulled them together closer to the middle of the room in a horseshoe shape with enough room behind them to walk around them all - he can get to all filters, lights, and occasional suicide victims back there. It's made a world of difference.
In the house, we have a 55 with mixed Tanganyikans, two 20-gallons that I use to breed my bristlenose in, and my son has a 20 long in his room with Neolamprologus multifasciatus.
The remaining tanks are in another room next to the showroom (the building used to be the garage/storage). They are set up in racks, and for the most part are bare-bottom with sponge filters. This is where we rear the fry and house some other breeding groups. Tank decor tends to be in the form of PVC pipe segments and flowerpots if there is any at all. Fry don't generally need places to hide and having the tanks clear make them much easier to clean.
We have the one very new Malawi tank in the showroom, the two Tanganyika tanks in the house, and a few scattered breeding groups from each lake peppered between the remaining tanks. With the exception of a few West African and Madagascan fish, ALL the rest of the fish are from Lake Victoria and its satellite waters - Gas's passion. He is very much into the conservation of these fish which are apparently going extinct in the wild.
No, we don't actively sell fish, though occasionally we will liquidate excess fish as needed to make room for new babies or new species. Auctions are wonderful for this purpose. We will most likely have some fish at the F.O.T.A.S. auction in September in San Antonio.
As for more pictures of our fish, I'd like to introduce you to a very cool website called AfricanCichlids.net We have a gallery there... it contains pictures galore (over 500 of them). Not all of the fish are ours because we do take contributions from hobbyist photographers, but we have or have had a great deal of them. I think it would be safe to say that we have or have had nearly all the Lake Victoria species in our gallery. Of course, we have and have had quite a few fish that we've never photographed as well.

wow thats alot of work to do. is it like an all day job for you and gas to take care of these tanks? how come these fish arnt protected in the wild?? (the ones from lake victoria) sounds great and i wouldnt care how it looks it just pretty sweet that you have so many tanks and fish if you dont sell them really then how do you pay for it all!! that has to be alot of money do ether of you work at a pet store or speicaliz in marine biologist?? sorry im giving you the run down. just trying to learn things and get to know the owner of the site. also we dont see you around here that much its great having some one with this much experence with these fish. i was told in a pet store plecos are so hard to breed do you dis aggree? and if so can you tell me how to breed them i want to.

We have a good article on the plight of Lake Victoria in the Articles area by Brad Harrison called Domino Effect Disaster. I highly recommend that as well as some good books on the subject, specifically the Seehausen and Goldschmidt books that you can see here. Gas (Greg) has also written a very good article that you can find off-site here as a pdf file: Lake Victoria - A Brief History.
We both just have regular jobs, but Gas does most (well, pretty much ALL) of the work with the fish (I handle the media LOL). He does a little bit every day, but maintenance is done on the weekends. By keeping things pretty simple, it's not that bad.
As for plecos, I don't breed regular plecos... just the bristlenose, and they're actually Ancistrus, not Plecostomus. Check out Planet Catfish... there are tons of artciles on the subject there.
