So my tank is about 10 months old. I use a wet dry sump to filter the water for an 80 gallon aquarium. This works OK, but I am thinking of a new project to improve the water quality.
I want to add a planted refugium and a UV sterilizer next to the wet dry under the tank.
Why? I know that plants will assist in completing the nitrogen cycle. A UV sterilizer should work well to eliminate parasites, bacteria and algae. If I keep the setup under my tank with proper ventilation, it will allow evaporated water to escape instead of creating potentailly harmfull mildew. And finally, it would look really cool...
I am also working on a plan for undergravel jets to improve water circulation.
I am certain I can build and incorporate the refugium, but I know little about UV sterilizers.
What do you think, and who knows about sterilizers?
Thanks!
