Hi... I am currently setting up a peaceful 65-gallon Mbuna-only tank and currently own 5) each of: Yellow Labs, Acei (Violet), and Rustys. I would like to add one more type of fish that is Blue in coloration. Based on your experiences, please recommend the most peaceful blue Mbuna I can add to my tank (shade of blue does not matter). Thank you for your help. Smile

There are not too many blue "peaceful mbunas".

There is the iceblue zebra which are beautiful and come with an assortment of colors for the dorsal fin. I have 5 and two have red fins one has a yellow fin and the other two have what appears to look like rainbow fins. That is they are multicolored. I have these mixed in my mbuana tank with acei that all have the violet color with the yellow dorsal fin and they are beautiful all together.

There are a lot of blue fish that are mbuna but have to be honest with you. These "mbuna" are all malawian and they are considered the most aggressive.

It's all a matter of seeing what works in your tank. As I was taught early on here, what works for me, may not work for you.

All my blue fish in my community tank get along well together, but it comes from picking and chosing the right fish. Taking ones back that didn't work. I have a blue peacock that I recently had to take out of my tank after owning him for 8 month or better. He just suddenly developed a sense to want to be the king of the castle and it just wasn't working. So he had to come out of the tank and now there is peace in the valley again. You see? I still have him, he is just in another tank.

I have learned that you cant have certain multiples of males coloring in the tank. Like you shouldn't have two electric blue ahlis or two male johannis in the tank.

There is a guy named "Allen" here who has a yellow and blue tank. It would be best for you to PM him and see what he has in his tank. Thats the best advise I can give you. Hope this helps a little.

This has helped me, and I'm learing too! Laughing About having two males of the same color/species. What I did was, I picked the fish that i wanted, then asked for two. In most cases, I ended up with two males. Then 1 by 1, one male died. I wondered what was going on, but now realize...1 male was killing the other.

The Blue dolphin Cichlid is suppose to be pretty easy going and when they get full grown they look neat with their cranial bump. I have one in my tank with various other African Cichlids and I am looking to get one or two more.

Hello,
I've posted my above question on 12) different Cichlid forum websites, and have posted the below response on all of them as well:

Thank you everyone for taking the time to read and respond to my question. Your help is greatly appreciated. Smile Many people have recommended way too aggressive blue mbuna species for my current peaceful inhabitants. As you can see above, I'm looking for the most Peaceful or, "less aggressive" mbuna setup possible. Because I'm not interested in Haps, Peacocks, dwarfs or carnivores, and based upon the feedback that I have received, I believe the best recommendation was the:

- Pseudotropheus sp. "blue dolphin" in Ndonga (Giant Demasoni)

(Not to be confused with the Cyrtocara moorii "blue dolphin" mentioned above)

http://cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=2605

This seems to be one of the more peaceful species and would be perfect for my tank. Now, the question is... where the heck can I find them? Does anyone know any websites, stores or people I can buy them from who could ship them? Thank you again. Smile

Have they got to be Mbuna.
A lot of the Alonucara species are very peaceful once kept with Mbuna.
Tanzanian black Acei are beautiful fish and peaceful like their
yellow tailed cousins.

If you want a great looking fish that will not act aggressive but will hold his territory you can't go wrong with the Cynotilopia Afra Jalo Reef or Blue Reef(Galireya Reef). In a 72 gallon we have 2 Jalo Reef and each one stays on its side of the tank. This was one of the first fish I started breeding 6 years ago. It is hard to find a pure strain in a store. Just make sure that the bars run all the way up from the body into the fin. We are on Long Island and have about 100 @ different shttp://izes if you are interested. I attached the picture. Good Luck.
