Hello there,
Sorry it's taken so long to respond to this. I have been in and out on this board. In regards to your post, Steatocranus casuarius is actually not from Lake Tanganyika. They are a riverine species.
I have kept them in the past and actually, have four adults now. The ones I've kept paired off and form very strong pair bonds. Males get significantly larger then their female counterparts. Males also form the distinct hump on their foreheads; whereas in females, the hump is not as pronounced. They form monogamous pair bonds. In my experience, they are fairly easy to raise, although I have yet to see a spawn from mine. They are pretty peaceful fish with other species but are pretty aggressive towards each other. I house mine in a 20 high filled with caves that line the bottom of the tank. I feed mine just regular african cichlid flakes and the occasional spirulina flake food as well. My only advice to you would be to insure your tank has plenty of rock structures/hideouts because these guys like to stay at the bottom of the tank and are pretty shy.
