We noticed our dominant male Neochromis greenwoodi 'chewing' one day, and looked a bit closer... to our amazement, he spit out (0:25), then gathered up.... FRY! Male mouthbrooding is not unheard of in the cichlid world, but this is the first time we've seen it from a Victorian cichlid!

We have a small colony of Neochromis greenwoodi from Mwanza. The dominant male is a real looker albeit a bit of a bully.

This male Neochromis greenwoodi was trying to spawn with anything he could tonight. There are a couple ripe females in his harem so it is a safe bet there will be a mouth full of eggs very soon.
